Marcasite (white iron pyrite) is an attractive and interesting mineral that is used in sterling silver jewelry. Small polished and faceted stones are inlaid into the silver that adds an extra sparkle to the jewelry. Marcasite in jewelry was very fashionable and popular in Victorian times and Queen Victoria is said to have favored marcasite in her jewelry. Marcasite jewelry regained popularity in the Roaring Twenties after World War 1 and fit perfectly into the Art Deco style. Today it gives jewelry a vintage look and adds an old world quality and charm to modern jewelry.
For Caring and Cleaning Marcasite.
Often, marcasite is secured in its setting with jewelers cement and because of this, it may require special cleaning.
Do:
Wipe gently with a soft and clean damp cloth.
Dry with a clean, soft and absorbent cloth.
Use a towel to ensure that the piece is entirely dry.
Don’t:
Avoid contact with hair spray and perfume.
Use a steamer, hot water or sonic cleaner.
Do not use any liquid polish.
Expose to chemicals or cleaning agents.
Expose to extreme temperature.
Immerse in water for a long time.

As with all jewelry, a bit of love and patience gives its own reward with longer lasting pieces.

What a pretty piece. I didn't know that marcasite was still popular. Most marcasite that I see in the stores are chunkier. This is a much finer look. It certainly less expensive than 14k gold jewelry but looks just as expensive.

I love it! This piece will look wonderful with the dress I bought for New Year's Eve. Yes, I already have my dress and shoes. Last year I waited to put my outfit together and there was nothing left out there!! Can't wait to receive it! Yes, I'll wear it before New Year's Eve...it will look very chic with a white blouse and jeans!! :)

That is great chic chick that you already have a dress for New Year's Eve. I always wait until the last moment to decide what we are going to do, and then just throw a "non-party in the house. It's called a "non-party so that no one thinks it is a party and expects too much. Not exciting but fun. Everyone that doesn't have anything to do on NYE comes. We sure do get a house full.
