The Lipstick Effect

We loved an article in this week’s Women’s Wear Daily (Monday April 27th) on the so-called “lipstick” effect. The idea is that no matter how bad the economy gets, sales of lipstick seem to thrive because, according to the article, it is an easy and quick fix that doesn’t cost a lot and makes you feel good. The most popular lipstick this recession has been Guerlain’s Rouge G de Guerlain ($45).


This Lipstick Effect dates back to the Great Depression and was first noticed by Leonard Lauder (chairman of Estee Lauder). Rosie the Riveter also wore grease covered overalls and her lipstick !
Here’s a little known fact…in the months following the September 11 terrorist attacks, lipstick sales doubled!

I always attack my hair..either by cutting it or coloring it..I know I never look the same..that maybe a good thing.
