VERMONTERS HOLD "SOCKS FOR SOLDIERS" EVENT

Remember out troops this Memorial Day ! Do whatever you can!
A Vermont-based retailer and a performance sock manufacturer have teamed up to help soldiers who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan with one less thing to worry about—cold feet.
Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel, a three-unit active wear and sports apparel and accessories store, and Darn Tough, makers of all weather high performance socks, launched "Socks for Soldiers" a promotion that began May 1 and ends Monday, Memorial Day.
For every pair of Darn Tough socks sold this month, Lenny's and Darn Tough matched the sale with a donation of another pair. Their goal was to donate 300 pairs to the men and women on active duty from Vermont National Guard.
Vermont shoppers responded enthusiastically and the goal was met within two weeks--and now exceeded. Lenny's responded to Vermonters' enthusiasm, kicking in an additional 150 pairs.
"Socks especially benefit soldiers who are on their feet for extended periods of time. Also they are very practical, relatively light-weight and ship efficiently in large quantities," says Ric Cabot, president of Darn Tough Vermont.
