Madonna’s Material Girl


New York—It was Madonna Mania at Macy’s on Tuesday, as more than 200 tweens and their moms lined up outside Macy’s Herald Square to kick off of the Material Girl clothing and accessories launch. The collection looks like all of Madonna's phases, Like a Virgin, Desperately Seeking Susan, and her Blonde Ambition and blended them all together.

Macy’s gave out Madonna-signed t-shirts to those guests who dressed up like the original Material Girl herself, although few braved the challenge. Luckily, Macy’s dispatched its own girls dressed in pink tulle skirts over leggings, sunglasses and bows in their blond hair to set the mood and hand out gift cards to those on line.
While Material Girl co-designers Madonna and daughter Lourdes were nowhere to be seen, “Gossip Girl” actress and rocker Taylor Momsen (the “face” of the Material Girl brand and advertising) performed live with her band The Pretty Reckless to a raucous crowd of 300.
Prices for the apparel, footwear, bags, jewelry, and hair goods range from $12 to $40 at Macy's now.
