Red for Brides ?

It's bridal week here in New York, which means that designers from Vera Wang to Oscar de la Renta are showing their new bridal collections for the Spring 2013 season. The Chinese must have a very positive attitude and influence in our fashion world as red is becoming the newest bridal color. Yep, red bridal gowns are a thing for the spring 2013 season, a surprising trend I must say. Vera Wang’s collection was entirely red. Oscar de la Renta, also showed two red dresses. “[The] Chinese believe that red brings fortune and luck, and the bride is traditionally expected to do exactly that for her husband,” Huang Hung, who writes the ChinaFile column in WWD,said. “However, in most Chinese weddings, the bride changes 2-3 times. So she might start with a red Chinese dress, then a western dress, then [change] again.” Will it catch on? Maybe a little red hot number for the honeymoon !

I've noticed this trend too, and I don't like it. Not that I'm a stickler for wearing white, but I think the color should remain light and neutral. Pastel blue or an ethereal pink is totally acceptable, but blood red? No thanks!

It depends on the culture and many other variables, I've been to some Chinese weddings where the bride wore a Chinese dress that was red. Red has huge significance and implication in Chinese culture.
