Michelle Makes Designers Happy

American designers, love the First Lady Michele Obama.  It is not an overstatement. She represents them on the world stage with her willingness to wear everyday brands and famous designer haute couture.  But in January 2011: the horror! Obama sent American designers into a tail spin by wearing a British label on the occasion of a White House state dinner in honor of China.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America went so far as to issue a statement expressing the trade group’s disappointment.

This year 2015, Michele Obama  returned to the scene of the fashion crime when the White House hosted a second state dinner for China, this one for president Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan.  She chose a custom mermaid gown from Vera Wang Collection. It was an inky black floor-length dress in silk crepe with a hand-draped skirt and organza sleeves.

The dress' designer, Vera Wang, felt honored by the accolades.
"It is such a privilege, as an American of Chinese heritage, to have dressed First Lady @MichelleObama for this state dinner honoring President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan, of the People's Rebublic of China," she tweeted.
